End User License Agreement
Draft v2, 2026-11-04 — not in force
About this software
Matrix Remote lets you see and control a computer you own or are allowed to use, from another device. The computer being seen and controlled is called the Receiver; the device you sit at is called the Viewer. A Receiver can be a Mac or a Windows PC. A Viewer can be a Mac, a Windows PC, an iPhone, an iPad or an Android phone; an iPhone or iPad can also let a paired computer watch its screen.
The two connect straight to each other on the same network, over your own Tailscale network, or, when they cannot reach each other directly, through the Company's relay on the internet, which the App uses automatically. The picture and every keystroke are encrypted between the two devices; the relay cannot read them.
This is powerful software. A Viewer that has been allowed to control a Receiver can do, on that Receiver, anything the person logged in there can do. That is why the terms below matter. Please read them.
⚠️ IMPORTANT — WHAT A CONTROLLING VIEWER CAN DO
When you allow a Viewer to control this computer (rather than only view it), the Viewer can move the mouse, click, and type anywhere — including into password fields, the lock screen, a terminal, and your banking or email. It can open, change and delete your files and settings. Only give control to a person you would hand your keyboard to. You can end any session at once with the red Stop button — or, on a Mac, the menu-bar item and ⌃⌥⌘X when the banner offers it; on Windows, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+X (except while Windows shows an administrator prompt). Using your own mouse or keyboard pauses the Viewer's control.
1. Acceptance of terms
By installing, accessing or using Matrix Remote ("the App"), you agree to be bound by this End User License Agreement ("EULA"). The App is published and licensed to you by Stingray International FZ-LLC ("the Company", "we", "us", "our"), whose registration details are set out in Section 13. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the App.
2. Licence, trial and renewal
Subject to your compliance with this EULA, the Company grants you a limited, non-exclusive licence to install and use the App.
This test version. In this version the Company's relay does not check licences: every copy of the App may use it free of charge, and no licence key is needed for anything. The rest of this Section applies once the Company switches the relay's licence check on.
Free use. Without a licence key you may always connect two devices on the same local network, and a Viewer may connect to a computer whose Tailscale address you have set in the App ("Set address (Tailscale)…"). These connections do not need the Company's relay. Other connections, including over Tailscale without an address set, are introduced by the relay.
Licence terms will be published when Matrix Remote leaves beta.
3. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the App;
- modify or create derivative works of the App;
- remove any proprietary notices from the App;
- use the App, or the Company's relay, for any illegal or unauthorized purpose;
- use the Company's relay or TURN servers for any traffic other than the App's own sessions.
4. Acceptable use — consent is required
You may use the App only to see or control a computer that you own or that its owner or authorized user has knowingly agreed you may access, for the purpose they agreed to, and for as long as they agree.
You must not:
- pair with, view or control any computer without the knowing consent of the person entitled to give it;
- obtain that consent by deception — for example by pretending to be technical support, a bank, a government body, a company's IT department, or anyone you are not;
- use the App to take, change or delete data, make payments, install software, or change settings on a computer beyond what its owner agreed to;
- use the App to harass, stalk, surveil or intimidate anyone, or to access a computer used by a minor without the consent of a parent or guardian;
- use the App in violation of computer-misuse, data-protection, privacy or similar laws in any country where you, the Receiver or the Viewer is located.
The App is built to make unauthorized use hard: there is no public ID or password to dial; a Viewer can reach only a Receiver it was paired with, using a one-time code shown on the Receiver and a check number that both sides show and the two people compare; the person at the Receiver is asked before every session (on a Mac, unless they have chosen otherwise for a computer, see Section 5); a red banner shows on every display while a session is on; and a session can be stopped at any moment. These protections exist for the person at the Receiver. They do not reduce your responsibility under this Section.
If you are asked by anyone to install the App, read out a pairing code, enter a check number, or press "Allow", and you did not start that contact yourself, stop and do not continue. The Company's support staff will never ask you to pair with them, and will never ask for a pairing code, a check number or an access password.
We may terminate the licence and refuse the relay to any licence or device used in breach of this Section, and we will cooperate with lawful requests from authorities investigating misuse.
5. Unattended access (Mac only) — your responsibility
On a Mac Receiver, the App can let a paired Viewer connect without anyone at the Receiver pressing "Allow" ("Connect without asking", or "unattended access"). Switching this on requires the Mac's login password or Touch ID and a separate Matrix Remote access password that the Viewer must enter for every such session. A Windows Receiver always asks.
If you switch on unattended access, you acknowledge and agree that:
- the paired Viewer you enabled it for can then see and (unless you set "view only") fully control that Mac at any time while a user is logged in, without further warning other than the on-screen banner;
- you are responsible for choosing a strong access password, for keeping it and your paired Viewers secure, and for removing a Viewer from the paired list if you no longer trust it or lose the device it runs on;
- unattended access works only while a user is logged in on the Receiver; the App cannot reach the login window or a Mac that has restarted;
- the Company has no access to your access password, your paired list or your sessions, and cannot revoke a Viewer on your behalf. Removal is done on the Receiver itself.
6. The relay service
The relay and TURN servers are provided by the Company on a best-effort basis: free of charge in this test version, and, once the licence check is on, with a licence or trial as described in Section 2. They pass encrypted data between your two devices and cannot read it. The Company may apply bandwidth, idle and concurrency limits, may change those limits, may suspend the relay for maintenance, abuse or legal reasons, and may discontinue it on reasonable notice. Separately, the App itself ends a session after 8 hours, or after 30 minutes without input when control is on. Connections on the same network or to a set Tailscale address do not depend on the relay and keep working if it is unavailable. The Company is not responsible for the performance of your or your counterpart's internet connection.
7. Data and privacy
The App has no analytics, advertising or telemetry, and the Company cannot see your screen, your typing, your files, your pairing codes, check numbers or access password, or which devices you have paired. Your paired list, settings and session history stay on your own devices.
When the App uses the Company's relay, the relay holds in memory, while your device is connected: its device ID and public keys, its internet (IP) address, when it is online, which devices exchanged encrypted set-up messages and when, a hash of a pairing code for up to 5 minutes while you pair, and how much data it passed on. When two devices cannot reach each other directly, the Company's TURN server passes the encrypted picture and input on, and sees both devices' IP addresses and the amount of data.
Once the licence check is on, the App sends the relay your whole licence key each time it connects; the key can include the name and email address it was issued to. The relay checks the key and keeps only the licence number, a hash of the Receiver's device ID and the dates it was used; for a trial, a hash of the device ID and the date the trial began.
The full details, and your rights, are in the Matrix Remote privacy policy on this website (Privacy).
8. Permissions and your computer
On a Mac (Mac only): the Receiver needs macOS permissions to work: Screen Recording (to show its screen) and Accessibility (to move the mouse and type). You grant these in macOS System Settings and may withdraw them at any time; without Accessibility, sessions are view only. The App does not use these permissions outside a session you allowed. The App is not sandboxed because sandboxed apps cannot post input to other apps.
On Windows: the Receiver needs no extra permission. Windows does not let a Viewer control administrator prompts or the sign-in screen. During a session the App watches whether the computer's own mouse and keyboard are being used, so your own input can pause the Viewer; it counts input events only and never records which keys were pressed or where.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
THE APP AND THE RELAY SERVICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE APP OR THE RELAY WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT A CONNECTION WILL ALWAYS BE POSSIBLE BETWEEN ANY TWO NETWORKS.
10. Third-party software
The App includes open-source software, including Google's WebRTC library (BSD-3-Clause). Every component is listed with its licence text in the App (Settings ▸ About ▸ Licences) and in the THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES file installed with the App. Those components are licensed under their own terms, which this EULA does not limit.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STINGRAY INTERNATIONAL FZ-LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO DATA, ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APP OR THE RELAY SERVICE. THIS LIMITATION APPLIES EQUALLY TO STINGRAY INTERNATIONAL FZ-LLC AND TO ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, LICENSORS, LICENSEES, AFFILIATES, RESELLERS AND DISTRIBUTORS (TOGETHER, THE "PROTECTED PARTIES"). NONE OF THE PROTECTED PARTIES SHALL BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE ARISING FROM MISUSE OF THE APP, FROM USE CONTRARY TO ITS INSTRUCTIONS OR WARNINGS, FROM ACTIONS TAKEN ON A COMPUTER BY A VIEWER YOU ALLOWED, FROM UNATTENDED ACCESS YOU ENABLED, OR FROM A PERSON YOU WERE DECEIVED INTO ALLOWING. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY UNDER OR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS EULA SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR YOUR LICENCE. NOTHING IN THIS EULA EXCLUDES OR LIMITS ANY LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, INCLUDING ANY MANDATORY STATUTORY RIGHTS YOU MAY HAVE AS A CONSUMER.
12. Governing law
This EULA shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Arab Emirates as applied in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and the courts of Ras Al Khaimah shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. This does not deprive you of any mandatory consumer-protection rights, or the protection of mandatory laws, of your country of residence.
13. Contact information
This App is published by Stingray International FZ-LLC, a Free Zone Limited Liability Company registered in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (registered office: Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates). For questions about this EULA, please contact: support@matrixremote.app.
14. Termination
We may terminate your licence and your access to the relay at any time for violation of this EULA, including Section 4. Upon termination you must cease all use of the App and delete it from your devices.
15. Changes to this EULA
We reserve the right to modify this EULA at any time. Your continued use of the App after such modifications constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
